On August 14, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, welcomed the Chief Executive Officer of Thai Vietjet Air Joint Stock Company Limited, Mr. Woranee Laprabang, on the occasion of paying a courtesy call and discussing the promotion of increased employment in the aviation industry to promote tourism. From the Prime Minister’s Secretariat’s Office, performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Phuchong Worasri, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries of Labour, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai and Mr. Decha Phruekpattanarak, and the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan joined the occasion at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour.
Mr. Phiphat thanked the executives of Thai Vietjet for paying a visit to the Ministry of Labour today and for discussing the request to increase the number of pilots and aircraft imported into the country so that workers have jobs and more income in the aviation industry. In this regard, the Labour Minister assigned the Director-General of the Department of Employment to discuss the details of the law with relevant parties about the possibility of announcing allowing foreign pilots to fly for a short period, such as six months, to help solve the problem of airlines having a pilot shortage. At the same time, it will help promote tourism. In addition, it will help reduce air ticket prices.
Mr. Phiphat continued that the government has essential policies to stimulate the economy, especially measures to promote the tourism industry. He thanked and commended the executives of Thai Vietjet for their approach to pilot development and continuous employment in the aviation industry, which has resulted in the tourism industry growing and recovering quickly, which is in line with the current government policy.
The Chief Executive Officer of Thai Vietjet Air Joint Stock Company Limited, Mr. Woranee Laprabang, said that on behalf of Thai Vietjet, he thanked the Labour Minister and his team for providing the opportunity to meet and discuss employment in the aviation industry today. In the past, Thai Vietjet has never laid off any employees before and has taken the best care of their employees, even when many companies reduced capacity during the COVID-19 outbreak, and the airline business itself was affected. The company commended the government’s policies for having clear measures, such as visa exemptions for tourists, to help stimulate and promote the tourism industry to recover quickly. The company plans to increase the number of pilots by 300 and increase the number of employees to 2,500 to 3,000 within five years to promote tourism and employment and drive the country’s economy.
