Labour Minister Supports Independent Careers in Isarn Region Creating Insurance to Compensate for Lost Income from Illness, Disability, Old Age, Child Support, and Death

           On May 2, 2024, at 10.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening of the Social Security for Independent Workers Throughout Thailand Project for the second batch, at the Petcharat Garden Hotel, Roi Et Province. The Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Karom Phonphonklang, the Governor of Roi Et Province, Mr. Songphon Jaikrim, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, Ms. Jirapa Bunrat, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, and officials joined the occasion. Insured persons and the social security network in Roi Et Province also showed interest in participating in this activity.

           The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, revealed his feelings about visiting the area on this occasion. He was pleased and honoured to preside over the opening of the Social Security for Independent Workers Throughout Thailand Project for the second batch today, which took place at the Petcharat Garden Hotel in Roi Et Province. This is a project created to provide knowledge and understanding of the benefits and protection from Social Security Section 40, distributed to self-employed people, including social security networks, so that they can share useful information with workers, following the Ministry of Labour’s policy on “building the economic foundation and improving the quality of life through labour protection.”Insured persons can choose the coverage that is appropriate for them. Starting from option 1, they can contribute 70 Baht per month; option 2, 100 Baht per month; and option 3, 300 Baht per month. Insured persons will receive protection in up to five cases, whether it be basic protection in the case of compensation for lost income from illness, in the case of disability, in the case of death, in the case of old age, and in the case of child support. Currently, there are nearly 11 million people insured under Section 40 throughout the country. Roi Et Province has a total of 52,621 self-employed persons registered as Section 40 insured persons, most of whom are working in agriculture. Important products that generate income in Roi Et Province include jasmine rice grown in the Thung Kula Rong Hai area, including food processing occupational groups and general contractors, who are an important mechanism for driving the economy of the province. Until now, Roi Et Province is one of the most economically important provinces in the Northeast. Moreover, the event also presented activities that are beneficial to the self-employed group in many areas, such as organizing exhibitions to provide knowledge from various agencies under the Ministry of Labour, setting up shops to sell products from network partners, the recruitment of Section 40 insured persons, including activities to award certificates to networks that support outstanding social security work.

          The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, said that the Social Security for Independent Workers Throughout Thailand Project organized in Roi Et Province was for the second batch in 2024. The first batch was in Phatthalung Province. The event has received a lot of attention from the people in the area. It shows that nowadays, self-employed groups place importance on improving their quality of life and want to have stable social security. He asked insured persons to be confident that the Ministry of Labour by the Social Security Office is ready to take care of all groups of workers, whether they are workers in the system or independent workers.
