Content Description

On August 29, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening ceremony of the Thailand Digital Employer Day 2024, ‘Upgrading the Digital Workforce; Driving the Thai Economy Towards Prosperity and Sustainability.’ He delivered a special speech on ‘Upgrading the Potential of Thai Workers Towards Employment in the Digital Age.’

He announced the intention to join the network to drive the digital competency of Thai workers to international standards to enhance business competitiveness. The ceremony presented certificates of honour to 34 skill development networks that supported skill development activities for the years 2023 to 2024. The Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand, Mr. Patrick Byrne, the ministerial working group, executives of the Ministry of Labour, executives of the Digital Development Foundation, ICDL (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and the Thai Software Industry Association, executives of government agencies, and labour skill development networks from both the public and private sectors joined the event at the Ministry of Labour’s meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.

Mr. Phiphat said that the Ministry of Labour has worked with both government and private sector partners. The event focuses on inspiring employers, employees, workers, and personnel in all sectors to be aware and see the importance of developing digital skills to achieve accurate results. It can bring about changes for personnel and organizations on the path to transforming into a digital organization successfully. This will lead to the promotion of support and the upgrading of the use of digital technology for personnel at all levels of the organization systematically and with standards. In terms of supply in Thailand and around the world, there are still issues with the demand for IT personnel. The survey results of the global IT market growth by IDC estimated that from 2023 to 2025, the world will need over 2 million IT personnel. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour collaborated with the private sector to organize the Thailand Digital Employer Day 2024, a platform for sharing experiences and knowledge between the government and private sectors. It will also inspire employers, executives, personnel, and workers to accelerate the development of digital knowledge and skills for themselves, their personnel, and the workforce.

The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, added that today’s activities include a seminar on the “Thai Software Industry and AI Literacy for ALL,” with executives from the Thai Software Industry Association, the Thai Programmer Association, and the Cyber Technology Innovation Promotion Association as speakers. In addition, there was a presentation of certificates of honour to 34 skill development networks that supported skill development activities for 2023 to 2024, in which the Department of Skill Development was able to organize training and assess skill standards for 20,741 workers. There was also an announcement of intention to join the network, special lectures, seminars, and the presentation of certificates to participants and awards to the winners of the ICDL Digital Challenge 2024 Thailand.

In organizing this event, the Ministry of Labour, through the Department of Skill Dev0elopment, was able to extend the project to a quality project under the Ministry of Labour in many aspects. It helps to build a culture of lifelong learning and self-development in line with working and living in the digital economy and society era, concluded the Director-General, Ms. Bubpha.
