The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep, revealed that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul had given a speech after chairing the meeting to follow up progress on implementation of government policies and gaining feedback on obstacles and suggestions from the private sector in Nakhon Sawan, at the provinces city hall today (23 June 2017). In his speech, he said that the lower northern and upper central parts of Nakhon Sawan are central to the transportation industry, comprising road, rail or water transportation. In addition to this, Tha Khao Kmnunsong is located in the province, which is Thailand’s first central rice market, a national economic foundation. Nakhon Sawan has been an agricultural province since long ago, taking up a large proportion of the 21 million informal workers in Thailand. Apart from caring for formal workers, the Ministry of Labour has also given great importance to informal workers, which is part of the agenda for national reform in transitioning the informal into the formal worker population. The transition will allow the workers better access to welfare and will be implemented under the “Three Opportunities Project” which includes the opportunity to start new, to grow and to be protected for an overall improved quality of living and sustainable employment.
On this occasion, the Labour Minister presented guidelines to leaders of the ministry’s affiliated units in 18 areas across 4 provinces comprising Nakhon Sawan, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Uthai Thani, to follow the sustainable economy principles of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej which focuses on the balance between economic, social and environmental growth. The Ministry of Labour has also upheld the royal principles in driving the green job agenda coupled with the SDG 2030. The Labour Minister also reiterated the importance of analyzing information and understanding the true needs of the people using a proactive approach, in order to enable effective resolution.
“In addition to this, I have reiterated that all 4 provinces improve skills development initiatives with informal workers and create awareness about the Working of Alien Act B.E. 2560 which will be enforced this 23 June. After enforcement, employers who have illegally employed foreign workers will be subject to a 400,000 – 800,000 Baht fine,” concluded the Labour Minister.
