The Labour Minister awarded vocational training certificates to measure work development potential of workers in the Greater Mekong Subregion, in preparation for the Nakhon Phanom International Skill Development Institute.
On January 25, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo and committee visited Nakhon Phanom to track and evaluate the progress of the Mekong Subregion Workforce Development Program and the establishment of the Nakhon Phanom International Skill Development Institute. Executives, government agencies and relevant educational institutions to the skill development of workers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam joined the event, totaling 20 people. The Labour Minister also awarded certificates to those who passed training courses under the International Skill Development Program for the development of economic cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion and Southeast Asia; courses included business planning and website design using Word Press. Awardees included 40 workers from Laos and 50 Thai nationals, trained in the field of Korean language from the Nakhon Phanom International Skill Development Office. This followed the implementation of the 3A policy that focuses on raising the skill level of the workforce aligns with the government’s 20-year national strategic plan on labour.
The Labour Minister stressed and emphasized the government’s policy to drive the nation into a developed country without leaving anyone behind. It, therefore, needs to accelerate the development of underlying factors, together with upgrading skilled workers to be consistent with the targeted industries and technological changes, as well as expanding cooperation on economic, social and security dimensions with partner nations. The Department of Skill Development has thus worked with government and private agencies in training both Thai and foreign workers in the Greater Mekong Subregion countries to strengthen relationships between member countries.
The Mekong Subregion economic area is in cooperation for capacity development with 5 countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. The Department of Skill Development established the International Skill Development Institute at Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai, to be a center for skill development and workforce potential in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, responsible for surrounding provinces including Chiang Rai, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani, which is the target area of operation in the year 2019, with a total of 2,000 people. There are training courses provided for industrial electricians, air conditioning repair, furniture carpenters, food and beverage service techniques and safety in the transport of dangerous goods along the Mekong River.
