Labour Minister Visits Northern Provinces for Progress Reports

           The Labour Minister visited Chiang Rai on 9 January 2017 to follow up progress within the 4 upper Northern provinces (Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae and Nan) and operations in alignment with the 20-year strategy on human resource development (2017-2026) towards a Thailand 4.0. General Sirichai Distakul monitored progress on the 8+1 labour reformation agendas for a Thailand 4.0. These include promotion of a zero corruption culture, information communication improvement for management, prevention and resolution to illegal labour, quality of life enhancement for informal workers (handicapped, elderly etc), employment promotion, “Safety Thailand”, workforce productivity improvement and reformation of the Ministry of Labour’s role. The agenda also involves projects in respect of the monarchy, which is a foundation to human resource development. The Labour Minister looked at affiliated units’ progress in each province, and how practices aligned with the Ministry of Labour’s mission and policies. He also gathered information regarding obstacles and channels for improvement.
In the afternoon, the Labour Minister and committee visited the Chiang Saen International Skills Development Institute, a collaborative project amongst the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand). The institute is a mechanism to support economic, trade, investment, tourism, human resource and environmental growth in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region.
