On 2 February 2017, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul visited Samut Sakhon City Hall to follow up progress of alignment with government policy regarding 3-dimensional foreign worker management comprising stability, economic and social dimensions in both Samut Sakhon and Ranong. The Labour Minister also acknowledged obstacles and advice from the private sector and relevant units, and communicated the expansion of foreign worker management to cover provinces with over 50,000 migrant workers. These provinces include Samut Sakhon, Ranong, Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Samut Prakarn, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Nontaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Phuket, Songkhla and Tak. The Labour Minister also presented government operational procedures to regional heads in Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Prachuab Kiri Khan, Chachoengsao and Samut Prakarn, regarding total foreign worker management, issuance of e-work permits and zoning.
In the afternoon, the Labour Minister visited government housing in Moo 10 of Ta CheeOn 1 February 2017, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul and committee gave a surprise visit to the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 7. He also visited insurers and patients at Bangpakok 8 Hospital.n sub-district, where many migrant workers reside. The housing is part of the migrant worker zoning, arranged to promote businesses and employers with migrant workers. The Labour Minister spoke with residents to gain insights and information, then visited Thai Union Manufacturing in Ta Sai sub-district of Muaeng district.
There are currently 2.6 million migrant workers (Cambodian, Laotian and Burmese nationals) in Thailand. This consists of 1.29 legal workers and another 1.325 illegal workers awaiting the citizenship verification process. Samut Sakhon alone has 300,066 foreign workers, comprising 288,658 migrant workers including 258,767 Burmese nationals, 10,066 Laotian nationals and 14,825 Cambodian nationals.
