Content Description

Today (2 February 2017) at 14.00, Labour Minisiter General Sirichai Distakul and committee visited the government housing in Ta Cheen of Samut Sakhon, which has been zoned to support businesses/employers with migrant workers. The Labour Minister listened to progress on the zoning for migrant workers in Samut Sakhon, where the accommodation in Ta Cheen has a total of 56 buildings, 29 of which have been dedicated to migrant workers. To present, approximately 5,000 Burmese workers reside there.

After gaining insights and information, the Labour Minister said, “The government cares greatly about the wellbeing of migrant workers in Thailand, where it aims to enhance the quality of living for all. This means improving convenience in public health and education, through partnerships with the Ministry of Education in Myanmar allowing workers to continue education in Myanmar upon return. The Ministry of Labour will consult with relevant units such as the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health to extend the zoning to other regions and ensure care for the workers’ dependents.”
The Burmese Minister of Education has observed teachings at the St. Jaochim Center for Migrants, which teaches youths from the government housing, where the curriculum has been set to align with those in Myanmar. The Burmese Minister commended Thailand on caring for Burmese nationals and said he believed that the measures taken would improve Thailand’s reputation in the international arena.
