Labour Minister’s Secretariat Organizes Employment Event in Surat Thani Offering 1,200 Positions and Product Sales to Reduce Household Expenses

            On June 26, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, to commence the “Creating Jobs and Career Paths@Chaiya Surat Thani” event at the Chaiya Vocational College, Wiang Subdistrict, Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province. The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, attended the opening ceremony. The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, gave a report. The Deputy Governor of Surat Thani Province, Mr. Sukon Noopakdee, joined in honour of the event. The Director of the Bangkok Employment Office Area 2 and Acting Employment Officer of Surat Thani Province, Mr. Phongsawat Phuangdet, along with the heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Surat Thani Province, gave a welcome.

            The Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, reported that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment, the Surat Thani Provincial Employment Office, and Chaiya Vocational College have worked together to drive government policy through the “Creating Jobs and Career Paths@Chaiya Surat Thani” project according to the goal of promoting employment, generating income, and creating opportunities for social equality. It aims to prepare the workforce by boosting people’s occupational potential, providing knowledge and practical training from people who are successful in self-employment and food truck entrepreneurs, sparking creativity and income-earning channels. There are some highlights, including giving opportunities to job seekers and employers/establishments to meet and match with each other directly. There are 1,235 vacancies from 103 establishments offered in the event. In addition, the Ministry of Labour, together with the Ministry of Commerce, has a blue flag project offering products at prices lower than the market to serve the workforce. There are over 100 consumer products for sale at discounts of up to 55%, especially products necessary for living such as instant noodles, rice, eggs, sugar, vegetable oil, as well as seasonal fruits.

            The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, stated that the current rapidly changing situation due to technological advancements has significantly impacted the behavior, spending, and living conditions of Thai people. Therefore, the Department of Employment has organized activities in line with these changes, such as lectures on “Preparing for the Job Market” and “Becoming an Influencer,” demonstrations of freelance careers, and practical training by successful professionals and educational institutions under the Vocational Education Division of Surat Thani Province, covering 42 careers. There are also exhibitions on new innovations, exhibitions from agencies under the Ministry of Labor, exhibitions on education and innovations from educational institutions under the Vocational Education Division of Surat Thani Province, career aptitude tests, career quiz competitions with prizes, displays and sales of products from groups supported by the Surat Thani Provincial Employment Office, home-based workers, and freelance groups. Additionally, there are consultation services, unemployment insurance registration, and reporting through Mobile Units. Furthermore, there are skill enhancement activities, including the “Level 1 Muay Thai Trainer” course provided by the Skill Development Institute 11 Surat Thani.

            “This is the first time for collaboration to help the workforce according to government policy, which includes part-time work catering from people school age to retirement, and events and low-cost products. This event will help people increase income to reduce household expenses,” said the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara.
