Since Malaysia government had announced the immigrant amnesty plan (plan 6P) by allowing the registration on 11th July 2011, however, the Minister of Interior, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, had postponed the beginning date due to the technical problems and internal unrest that the government must handle as its primary agenda.
Currently, Permanent Secretary of Malaysia Interior, Mr. Tan Sri Mahmood Adam, gave a press conference that the registration according to the immigration amnesty plan will commence on 1st August 2011 and also declared the names of 334 authorized agencies to conduct the registration services.
In this regard, illegal migrant workers must register within 2 weeks from the commencement date at 35 immigration offices nationwide which is free of charge or at the offices of authorized agencies with the registration fees of 35 Ringgit ( 350 Baht) for the return to country of origin and 300 Ringgit (3,000 Baht) for the work permits. After the registration, these workers will be given the receipts of the registration and be able to work with their employers until they are notified to return their countries or allowed to work officially. Moreover, whether the work permits will be granted to workers, it depends upon the consideration of Ministry of Interior by focusing on the positions that suit country’s economic development and employer needs and the remaining workers will be dispatched to the countries of origins. Accordingly, the government expects to finish the plan within December 2011.
The office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia, therefore, would like to inform the immigration amnesty plan to those illegal Thai migrant workers who wish to enroll for the plan to check the names of authorized agencies at Ministry of Interior’s website (www.moha.gov.my) or contact to the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia Tel No. 03 2145 5868 in order to avoid the unofficial agencies and unreasonable charges.
