On 3 May 2011, the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia, together with the Consul-General in Penang (Mr. Voradet Viravakin) attended the ceremony to confer certificates to youths from Thailand Southern provinces who have graduated a training course from Giatmara Vocational Training Center in Malaysia.
YB Dato Hj. Shairuddin Bin Ab. Moin, Chairman of Giatmara, presided over the ceremony, attended by the Thai Consul-General in Penang, the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia, and the representatives from the Southern Border Provinces Administration Center. This is the 4th class and there are 21 graduates in a number of vocational fields e.g. mechanics, motorcycle technicians, bakery chefs, and welding technicians. The training period is 6 months, plus 2 months internship in an enterprise. The graduates receive 1 set of basic tools for use in Thailand.
Giatmara Vocational Training Center holds training courses for youths from Thailand Southern provinces, funded by the budget of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Thailand-Malaysia Committee on Joint Development Strategy for border areas (JDS).
