Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin gave a statement to the press that From 1 June 2011 onwards, foreigners entering Malaysia will have their thumbprints at 96 entry points. The foreigners excluding the refugee entering Malaysia will have their thumbprints taken under biometric system. This is taken and processed within 20 seconds upon arrival at the immigration check-point. This security effort is meant to register and monitor foreigners from their arrival to departure. The system is capable of tackling various immigration issues, including falsification of documents, overstaying, and misuse of visas, passes and permits. Any foreigner stays over the permitted period will receive the notice and will be preceded with the law.
Mr. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin acting as a chairman of the cabinet meeting on foreign workers and illegal immigration on 17 March 2011 also further stated that the cabinet has approved the changing of the new revenue collecting system in which the employer hiring a great number of foreign workers with many years employment contract shall pay higher revenue. This new system is expected to be approved and became into effective in June.
Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia therefore would like to inform Thais who will enter Malaysia and those who are working in Malaysia to acknowledge this measure since after the fingerprint system is implemented, there would be some Thai workers come to work in Malaysia illegally which probably cause them a problem in case of arrival and departure.
