Mr. Kwan Foh Kwai, Chairman of the MBAM notified that Malaysia currently had faced with severe labour shortage, simultaneously the existing 176,000 local construction workers of the total 502,493 workers or 35% of workers are going to reach at 50 years old and these workers tend to retire in 2017. Therefore, the labour shortage in construction sector, in particular skilled wokers may negatively impact Country development plan volume. 10 and government’s Economic Transformation Program: ETP.
Besides, Mr. Kwan Foh Kwai, has further called for the reduction of annually health insurance fees at the amount of 120 ringgit (1,200 Baht) per person that foreign workers have to pay according to new regulation of Malaysian government which was effective on 1 January, 2011. Consequently, foreign workers may decide not to work in Malaysia since the new regulation can cause the burden for foreign workers.
According to the research information of job vacancies classified by states and industrial sectors on December 2010 conducted by Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia, it finds that there are approximately 19,346 vacancies in construction sector nationwide and Jahor has the most job opportunities for 6,611 positions. The next are Selangor and Kuala lumpur available for 3,809 positions and 3,063 positions respectively. However, the most group of labour shortage is common workers
