Due to Taiwan’s fast growing economy, Taiwan’s Executive Yuan announced on 21 April 2011 to increase monthly wage for public sector employees including civil servants, soldiers, and police officers from 1st July 2011 to boost thier morale and further stimulate its economy.
Mr. Wang Ju-hsuan, President of Council of Labour Affairs, said at a news conference hosted by Koumintang party that a further increase in the country’s minimum wage is imperative but the adjustment range will depend on the decision of the minimum wage screening committee. The CLA president also said although the minimum wage was already raised at the beginning of the year, the level remain relatively low and should be further adjusted upward. Wang reaffirmed that the minimum wage adjustment will be considered on the 3rd quarter of the year as usual and CLA hopes employers will support the move.
