Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs) , Mrs. Ratiwan Suntra visited Thai workers at HTC Corporation.
On 17 July 2013, Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs), Mrs. Ratiwan Suntra visited Thai workers at HTC Corperation, the famous smartphone producer under tradename “HTC” in Taiwan located in Kuison, Taoyuan. On this occasion Mr. CS Wang, Vice president welcomed and allowed Minsiter Counsellor to meet 230 Thai workers who came to work since the end of June and the beginning of July 2013. Those workers, considered as the first female workers of HTC Corporation appreciated in this visit and concerns from Office of Labour Afffairs in Taipei. After having discuss, The Minister Counsellor( Labour Affairs) also opened an opportunity to the workers, mostly came to work in Teipei for the fist time, to have enquiries regarding working in Taipei. MR. Kuan, manufacturing manager then answered all enquiries from the workers.
In addition, Vice President also introduced each divisions of HTC Corporation in which the manufacturing division has totally 15,000 employers. Out of this number, there are 3,200 Vietnamese, 2,200 Philippines, 800 Thais. It was tried out to firstly import 230 workers. Regarding the foreign workers’ wage, the salary starts from 20,660 NT Dollars which has been use to calculate overtime payment, normally 8 working hours a day, and not over than 84 hours a week. Normally, the overtime is 4 hours and overtime payment for holidays will be paid for 1.5 times of regular hours.
Mr. CS Wang, Vice President stated that this is the first group of Thai workers having been employed so that if they could adjust and work so well, the company would import more Thai workers to substitute Filipino.
Later in the same day, the officers of HTC led the Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs) showed around the factory in which there are 7-eleven, fitness, post office, starbucks, etc. located inside. It is also huge and tidy.
Office of Labour Affairs in Taipei wants to expand Thai labour market in field of electronic and computer manufacturing by changing perspective of Taiwanese employer to employ female Thai workers rather than Filipino or Vietnamese workers since in the past, Taiwan entrepreneurs reckon that Thai workers are proper to work in the old style of construction and industrial business that take high risk and hard working.
Regarding the qualification of Thai workers who intend to go for work at HTC Corporation, the famous Taiwan electronic company, they must have completed the upper secondary school, demonstrate English-language proficiency, and aged between 20-28 years old
