Mrs. Thongmuan, a Thai worker from Khon Kaen province, came to work in Taiwan via the Department of Employment (Direct recruitment) as a curator in Banciao district of New Taipei in January 2014. She suffered headache and breathing difficulty while her face swelled. Her employer sent her to the hospital where doctors found cancer in her trachea. Doctor decrbed after her operation that it was a Fibroma cancer. Although her overall condition has improved, she is still unable to speak and has to breath through a tube that run through a small hole in her throat.

Mrs. Thongmuan asked the Office of Labour Affairs in Taipei to help pay for her medical treatment, which is costly. The traetment will last a long time while her husband Mr. Arthit, who now works in Zhang hua, Taiwan, can not take a leave to take care of her. If she hires a curator, she has to pay an additional fee of 2,500-3,000 Taiwan dollar. The Office of Labour Affairs in Taipei discussed the matter with Mr. Arthit’s employer, who eventually allows him to take a leave to take care of his wife at the hospital.
