Minister of Labor Proposes Two Government Representatives for Wage Committee and Relief Measures for Flood Victims to Resume Their Occupations

          On November 29, 2024, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, disclosed details following the Cabinet meeting held at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Chiang Mai Province. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Labor, including Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment; Mr. Pichet Thongpan, Inspector-General; and Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisakdiyothin, Assistant Permanent Secretary. Before the meeting, the Minister and his team visited booths showcasing occupational group products.

          During the meeting, the Ministry of Labor proposed three items for acknowledgment. First, Commander Saroj Khomkhai, Director-General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, and Mr. Akarut Sontayanon were appointed government representatives to the 22nd Wage Committee, filling vacant positions. Their tenure will begin upon Cabinet approval and align with the remaining term of the replaced committee members. Second, relief measures were proposed for flood and landslide victims in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Temporary employment was provided to 400 affected individuals, granting each a payment of 1,500 THB. In Chiang Rai, repair efforts included 54 houses, 2 temples, drainage systems spanning 1,500 meters, and 6,000 square meters of village roads. Public service centers repaired 756 electrical appliances, motorcycles, and agricultural tools, saving residents 798,700 THB. Health check centers distributed 500 medical kits and 200 sets of medical supplies to insured individuals and the general public. In Chiang Mai, 223 individuals benefited from repair services for electrical appliances and agricultural equipment, along with emergency relief supplies and meals. Post-flood recovery plans included a temporary employment project for public space cleaning, employing 600 individuals. Lastly, the Ministry highlighted Thailand’s participation in the 47th WorldSkills International Competition in Lyon, France, where the country ranked 21st among 60 nations. Thai representatives earned a gold medal in Elderly and Patient Care, a silver medal in CNC Machining (Lathe), and five Medallions for Excellence in Auto Body Repair, Food and Beverage Service, Welding Technology, Mechatronics (Team Category), and Industry 4.0 (Team Category). These efforts demonstrate the Ministry’s commitment to addressing labor issues, enhancing occupational welfare, and promoting Thailand’s workforce capabilities internationally.
