Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul chaired the opening of the 31st National Health and Safety Week at BITEC Bangna, organized by 10 ministries including the Ministry of Labour, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Transportation, Interior, Public Health, Industry, Science and Technology, Tourism and Sport, Education and the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment; the event was organized under the theme “Safety Thailand, Safety Together”. On this occasion, the Labour Minister presented awards to organizations meeting the criteria for “Zero Accidents 2017”. This year, there were 258 awardees for the model safety organization project, 9 awards from SMEs, 5 awards for the safety poster competition and 4 awardees for sponsor organizations.
In his speech, he said that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has given great importance to workforce development and implementation of the ‘Safety Thailand’ policy for a Thailand 4.0, which is one of the strategies on creating opportunities and social equality. The government has also identified workplace safety as an important issue as well as enforcement of relevant legislation, whereby the Prime Minister has urged all ministries to work together on driving health and safety initiatives.
The event hosted seminars under 24 topics, allowing the exchange of information and know-how on health and safety; the topics were particularly geared towards safety issues in construction, fire hazards, chemicals, hygiene and transportation. An exhibition was also organized with over 140 booths from both public and private sectors, sharing information and knowledge with attendees.
