On 10 March 2017, Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti welcomed Mr. Joe Liu, Vice President of the Southeast Asia Region from 3M Company, on courtesy call at the Ministry of Labour. The Permanent Secretary of Labour said, “The Thai government has given great importance to the ‘Safety Thailand’ policies which covers occupational safety, hygiene and environment. It has become a national agenda to which the Ministry of Labour has continuously acted on, as Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul has given great focus to the issue. The Safety at Work Knowledge Development Center was developed in honour of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday, which is aimed to provide knowledge on workplace safety, and communicate this to the public to see and understand.”
Mr. Joe Lui commended the Ministry of Labour’s work and efforts on occupational safety to improve the lives of employees. He said that Thailand could potentially become a model for other ASEAN countries and also advised ways to channel an understanding to all stakeholders for improved work productivity.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour concluded, “After today’s discussion, the Ministry of Labour and 3M Thailand will set up a working team to plan how an understanding on workplace safety will be communicated to all stakeholders. This will include the necessary training of company safety officers, whereby 3M will take the role of providing international standardized safety knowledge and arrange a workshop to create an understanding among all stakeholders. The Ministry of Labour will work closely with both public and private entities for the most efficient results, and spread knowledge to the younger generation who are the future workforce.”
