Ministry of Labour Devises Action Plan for 21st Century

         Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the discussion with the National Strategic Reform and Reconciliation Committee, on regulations for people development towards the 21st century. The discussion held the main objective to improve the lives of Thai workers through knowledge and skills enhancement, by identifying main and relevant units to carry out the action plans which will focus on workers in the 10 targeted industries, that is the first s-curve and new s-curve.

 

 


                  Action plans on people development towards the 21st century are categorized into 6 groups. The first group are children before birth until the end of high school, to which the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health will be responsible for creating an intelligent, healthy and cultured population of children. The second group are vocational and university students, responsible by the Ministry of Education in ensuring streamline of curriculums, physical and mental wellbeing, as well as a positive culture. Following this is the working population, responsible by the Ministry of Labour in ensuring employment, occupational safety and hygiene, social protection and culture, whereas the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is responsible for the senior population in ensuring health, employment, social and cultural aspects. The fifth group are the 6.2 million agriculturists, responsible by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in promoting technological integration for ‘Smart Farmers”, whereas the final group are researchers, overseen by the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote research and professional growth.

            The meeting assigned responsible units for each of the 6 categories, where the outcome of the discussion will be presented to the larger meeting on 17 March. The relevant permanent secretaries will meet again on 23 March to give consensus and present to the Prime Minister for approval within April.
