Ministry of Labour Urges IT Skills Development for Thailand 4.0

             Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul spoke about the delayed citizenship verification process of over 1.3 million Burmese, Laotian and Cambodian workers. He explained that the Department of Employment has measures to resolve this issue, asking for collaboration from labour-sending countries to complete the process in order to legalize migrant workers as soon as possible. This is one of the key agendas on reformation and will require bilateral cooperation from sending countries and businesses.
             The Labour Minister spoke about CISCO, a global leader in IT which highlighted Thailand’s lack of IT workers and the increase use of robots in the services sector, which could affect Thailand’s economy greatly. In response, the Department of Skills Development has launched urgent skills development measures to boost technological know-how in support of the digital age. Advanced technological centers will be piloted in 12 provinces to support workers of all capacities, from 1.0-3.0 worker groups in order to keep up with changing technology and the Thailand 4.0 policy.
