MOL and MOE Jointly Drive MOU to Promote Skills Development for Student and Workers of All Levels to Support Employment and Income

            On May 31, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Suthep Chitvong, who chaired the working group meeting to drive the MOU on education and employment between the Ministry of Education and relevant working groups. Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, representatives from the Department of Employment, the Department of Skill Development, and executives from departments under the Ministry of Education also attended the meeting, which took place at the Ratchawanlop conference room, Ministry of Education.
            Mr. Suthep said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, has an important policy to promote the development of vocational skills and employment, giving importance to human resource development at all ages, especially to the working-age who must develop skills following the changes in technology. This will reduce the shortage of knowledgeable, competent, and skilled workers to meet the demands of the labour market in both quantity and quality. The Ministry of Labour, by Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, therefore signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education on January 19, 2022.
            Mr. Suthep said that the essence of today’s meeting included the approval of minutes of the committee meeting to drive the implementation of promotion for education and employment opportunities for students and workers at all levels no. 1/2022. The meeting also informed the appointment of a working group to drive education and employment according to the Memorandum of Understanding on the promotion of education and employment for students and workers at all levels between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour. It aims to drive the implementation of the objectives under the Memorandum of Understanding. There are four working groups: The working group on the Big Data database system and employment promotion, where the Assistant Permanent Secretary of Labour has been assigned as the chairperson. The working group on curriculum development and personnel and teacher development, where there is a consultant for vocational standards, businesses, and services, and the Office of the Vocational Education Commission is the chairperson. The working group on the assessment and establishment of a labour skill standard assessment center and the assessment and establishment of a competency assessment center, chaired by the Department of Skill Development’s Deputy Director-General. Finally, the working group on promoting and developing bilateral vocational education management and skill competition, where the Vocational Education Commission’s Deputy Secretary-General is the chairperson.
            The meeting monitored the progress of the cooperation, which will enable the two agencies to jointly drive the efforts to achieve its objectives. The initiative also aligns with the government’s policy to promote education and employment for students and workers at all levels. This will truly solve the problem of labour shortages, both in quality and quantity.
