On January 19, 2022, at 09.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin and Education Minister Ms. Treenut Thienthong presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Education and Employment for Students and Workers of All Levels. The occasion occurred at the Ratchawanlop Conference Room, Ratchawanlop Building, Ministry of Education, Bangkok. Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol and Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, and executives from the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Education also joined the occasion.
After the signing ceremony, the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, has the policy to promote the development of professional skills and to employment. It gives importance to human resource development at all ages, especially among workers who need to develop skills to a higher level following technology changes. It also focuses on reducing the shortage of knowledgeable and skilled workers to meet the demands of the labour market in both quantity and quality. Both agencies, therefore, drive the policy by using the civil state approach to create cooperation.
Mr. Suchart continued that in the signing today, both agencies will jointly develop a database (Big Data) on the demand and supply of the labour market to promote education management, professional skills development, and employment. It will organize training on modern technology for personnel and teachers to bring knowledge to expand for students under the Ministry of Education and workers at all levels. It aims to develop a training course towards the national skill standard test and competency assessment, jointly organize skill competitions at the regional, national, ASEAN, and international levels, and disseminate knowledge of laws and regulations related to employment, labour protection, and social security.
During 2019-2021, the Department of Skill Development organized training and assessments of national skill standards for students in the final year of vocational courses such as mechanical drafting technicians with computers, new motorcycle model technicians, building electricians, household and small commercial air conditioner technicians, welders, and employees using computers. There are a total of 23,891 people who have passed training and testing. It also aims to promote 114 educational institutions as skill standard testing centers, with 16 competency assessment centers. It has also implemented a vocational skills enhancement program for students who did not continue their compulsory post-graduate studies. A total of1,178 people have passed the training. In the years to come, it aims to achieve more concrete goals and truly solve labour shortages in both quantity and quality.
