MOL and MOI Join Forces on Samut Sakhon Zoning

           Today (9 June 2017) Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul visited Samut Sakhon to join the opening of the Community Center in Ta Cheen, presided by Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai; the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s Minister Pol.Gen. Adul Sangsingkeo and the Ministry of Interior’s Deputy Minister Mr. Soothi Makboon also joined the event. From there they visited various exhibitions and activities by the Ministry of Labour’s affiliated units within the center such as the health check unit from Samut Sakhon Hospital, online services to check eligibility from the provincial social security office, appeals acknowledgement and coordination services from the provincial employment office, welfare advice by the provincial department of labour protection and welfare and family advice by the provincial office of social development and human security. They also visited foreign workers’ apartment units at the community house building 8 which ensures standard quality of living for foreign workers. They then visited Analai School which provides education to migrant workers in Special Economic Zone.
    After visiting the Samut Sakhon Community Center in Ta Cheen, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul explained that migrant worker management was government policy to ensure economic and social stability. He said that in addition to the center was the migrant worker coordination and assistance center which helps the selection process of migrant workers by checking documents and coordinating with relevant units. The Ministry of Interior and National Housing Authority has also assisted with accommodation to ensure the safety and order of migrant workers.
    The Labour Minister said that Samut Sakhon is a model for migrant worker zoning, currently residing in the National Housing Authority’s buildings. In the future, the private sector may become involved by investing in land and buildings made to the NHA’s standards and clearly dedicating building for migrant workers. Zoning is expected to be extended to 12 other provinces including Ranong, Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Samut Prakarn, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Phuket, Songkhla and Tak.
