MOL and TU Faculty of Economics Join on Academic Issues

           Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the signing of the academic agreement between the Office of the Permanent Secretary and the Faculty of Economics, Thammasart University represented by Associate Professor Dr. Chayun Tantivasadakarn. The agreement intends to facilitate exchange of knowledge on labour economics and enhance analysis, forecasting and research to international standards, enabling the provision of statistical and research services on labour. The collaboration further intends to develop essential skills in advising foundational policies and labour economics amongst officers and officials within the Office of the Permanent Secretary. Both units will support each other on academic issues throughout the 5-year duration. 

M.L. Puntrik Smiti said that the Ministry of Labour played an essential role in driving the 20-year national strategy, particularly on labour issues which aims to see the workforce as not only a productive manpower, but also creative and innovative, and eventually a “brain power” workforce enabling a global workforce. The strategy also aims for the people to be equipped with necessary IT know-how and skills, as well as international languages and flexibility. She explained that the Ministry of Labour has joined with Thammasart University’s Economics Faculty to promote academic work in all dimensions, covering strategies, planning and producing a productive workforce which is competitive in the global arena.  The Permanent Secretary of Labour explained the Labour Economics Offices’ role on setting directions and researching labour trends. Such information will then be presented to the government to formulate effective solutions and directions, whereby support from Thammasart University’s Faculty of Economics will contribute to national and human resource development. 

Associate Professor Dr. Chayun Tantivasadakarn said that the collaboration was an important response to the Thailand 4.0 policy, whereby both parties will benefit from each other. He said that he hoped to see the relationship remain in the long-term to continuously develop the nation.
