On July 6, 2024, at 10.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, assigned the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Lieutenant Saroj Komkhai, to chair the closing of the training program for the training course to appoint officials in accordance with the law on the prevention and suppression of human trafficking in the 2024 fiscal year, along with presenting certificates to the trainees. The event aims to equip participants with knowledge and understanding of policies to prevent and suppress human trafficking and forced labour or services and to assist victims of human trafficking and forced labour or services in accordance with legal and international principles. It also strives to provide participants with the qualifications according to the Ministerial Regulations specifying the qualifications for persons to be appointed as officials under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act B.E. 2551 and its amendments. The Director of the Office of the Secretariat of the Labour Trafficking Prevention Command Center, Ms. Sopana Boon-Long, reported on the results of the training. Senior executives of the Ministry of Labour, along with the trainees, joined in the welcome at The Emerald Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, Din Daeng District, Bangkok.
Lieutenant Saroj said the report of the Director of the Office of the Secretariat of the Labour Trafficking Prevention Command Center revealed that the training program for appointing officials is a 7-day training program. It started on June 30 through to July 6, 2024. Training participants were from the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, the Department of Employment, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Department of Provincial Administration, the Human Trafficking Suppression Division, the Fisheries Department, the Immigration Bureau and the Department of Special Investigation, both at the central and provincial regions, totaling 75 people. The training content includes general basic knowledge about human trafficking, laws related to preventing and suppressing human trafficking, and knowledge and skills in working to prevent and suppress human trafficking.
“I would like to ask all trainees to use the knowledge and skills gained from this training to apply in their authority and duty according to the law on the prevention and suppression of human trafficking, to perform tasks in preventing and suppressing human trafficking and forced labour or services with efficiency, producing concrete results. The aim is for Thailand to meet the minimum standards of the United States and be upgraded to Tier 1 in the Trafficking in Persons Report,” said Lieutenant Saroj.
