Content Description

On June 25, 2024, at 09.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, chaired the opening ceremony of the 13th workshop on preparing salary structures in the private sector. The Director of the Wage Commission Office, Ms. Tuangsap Chaweerat, gave a report. The occasion took place at the Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Pairoj said that the role of the wage committee is to set the minimum wage rate and the wage rate according to skill standards. It also has the authority to set guidelines for considering wage adjustments based on the economic and social conditions of employers. The Wage Committee has guidelines to encourage business establishments to create their salary structure to adjust wages for employees based on their knowledge, abilities, and responsibilities. The Wage Committee recognizes that wage, salary, and compensation management are essential matters for every organization and determines the salary structure to be in line with the organization’s policies. It is the primary mission of any organization, whether small or large. A good salary structure will allow employers to control labour costs, such as manpower, to a manageable level and forecast future labour costs. This will benefit the maintenance of the long-term ability of the establishment to compensate and retain talented personnel to stay with the organization for a long time as well. Employees can receive wages according to their work experience and skills and have opportunities for career advancement. They can also have the motivation to develop their own skills, which results in good labour productivity and increases the country’s competitiveness.

Mr. Pairoj continued that the Ministry of Labour has collaborated with the Panyapiwat Institute of Management to organize a workshop on preparing salary structures in the private sector from 2012 until the present. Past training results found that business establishments value creating an organized salary structure, and the knowledge gained is used to prepare or improve the salary structure.

“I hope you will gain knowledge and understanding about the salary structure, which can be used to achieve full effectiveness. The sacrifice of your valuable time to attend this seminar is considered a good sign to help create equality and fairness in wage and salary management in the labour market of Thailand,” concluded Mr. Pairoj.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour and delegation then visited the Panyapiwat Institute of Management to observe the teaching curriculum.

The 13th workshop on the preparation of salary structures in the private sector was organized to provide business operators participating in the project with knowledge and understanding of the principles of salary structure management, including the importance of creating a wage structure, salary, and methods for creating a salary structure. It also encompasses a practical component on how to create salary structures, using the knowledge gained from participating in the project to correctly structure wages and salaries in their own business establishments, including communicating with other personnel in the organization. It also promotes good relationships in the business establishment.
