Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, is focused on slowing down and stopping the spread of COVID-19. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, has emphasized and given importance to the systematic management of migrant workers. The efforts cover all dimensions of labour migration providing rights, liberties, equality, and fairness following the principles of respect for human dignity to enable migrant workers working in Thailand to receive equal protection as Thai workers and follow international guidelines. The Ministry of Labour has prepared guidelines for importing foreign workers according to the MOU to have enough workers to drive the country’s economy. The guidelines further help solve the problem of smuggling workers and systematically control and prevent the spread of COVID-19, bringing workers into the legal employment system. The initiative benefits Thailand in terms of the economy, public health, security, and employment. The efforts collaborate with the Ministry of Public Health, the Immigration Office, the Department of Provincial Administration, and related agencies by supporting the correct work of foreign workers so that workers who come to work in Thailand are protected and treated according to human rights.
