Content Description

On 27 March 2017, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour chaired the meeting for the working committee on employment promotion for the military brigade, between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Labour. The discussion reported progress in continuation from the agreement signed between the 2 ministries on 13 October 2016, to which the Department of Skills Development has trained over 2,800 soldiers from the targeted 3,060 this year, with training for the remainder already underway. Next year, the target will increase to 10,000 soldiers.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour said that the consultation with the Ministry of Defense discussed secondary plans, grouping, professional consultation, pre-workforce preparation and recruitment events. There will be 4 rounds of training operations each lasting 5 months, which will take place in October 2017, April 2018, October 2018 and April 2019 at the local skills development office. For the first round in 2017, the Royal Thai Marine Corps in Chon Buri, the Royal Thai Airforce in Don mueng and the 9th Infantry Division Headquarters in Kanchanaburi have surveyed the soldiers where 1,050 have shown interest to partake in the program. The Ministry of Defense will facilitate officers from the Department of Employment and Skills Development to conduct further studies as to which curriculums and professional positions are demanded. This is expected to be completed within this May. The meeting also asked the Department of Employment to prepare vacancies for dismissed military members who have passed the training, to ensure that employment and income is continuous.
