On February 18, 2021, at the Jompol P. Phibulsongkram meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat presided over the opening of the Building Thailand Digital Workforce event. The event consisted of three activities, including the launch of the Digital Skill Development Academy (DISDA), a new agency to oversee the development of digital skills for the workforce, and the launch of the DSD App that combines the services of the Department of Skill Development in a single app. The event also launched a workshop on developing digital technology skills to enhance business and industry and provided a seminar for 100 participants. Director-General of the Department of Skill Development Mr. Tawat Benchatikul and executives who are honored in the event.
Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat gave a report after chairing the commencement ceremony. She said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan’s supervision has a policy for government agencies to work under the integration with network partners following the civil state guidelines. The policies focus on developing digital technology skills to transform Thailand into a digital Thailand. The Ministry of Labour responds to the policy and drives the development of manpower to support the target S-Curve industries is in line with the national strategy for manpower development to prepare for the digital economy and society.
Director-General of the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development Mr. Tawat Benchatikul established the Digital Skill Development Academy (DISDA), a central agency under the DSD to perform the duties of developing personnel in both the public and private sectors, to use technology intelligently in their careers. The aim is to connect digital human resource development in training, skill standard assessment, and the DSD database with external agencies. The DISDA has launched a workshop on developing digital technology skills to enhance businesses and target industries. Over 100 business representatives shared their vision for a digital workforce and development needs.
The “DSD App” was also released. It is an application that collects information, serving the people and companies through a single app source. The services consist of 1. Servicing people, including information training courses, skill standard assessments, information about the Skill Development Promotion Act B.E. 2545, knowledge and capability certification, information about linkage to the technician app, and downloading electronic certificates. 2. Public relations, procurement, and a manual on public services. 3. Contact information for the DSD, and 4. Frequently asked questions. The app can be downloaded from Android and iOS smartphones by searching for the “DSD App.” By installing the app, users will have immediate access to services for convenience and completeness of the information.
Modern technology is constantly evolving every day. The workforce must adjust, rely on and make use of online information, and have the skills to use digital tools for the speed of communication to be most effective in work. The DSD, by the DISDA and the networks, are ready to build a solid foundation, pushing Thailand to drive the workforce in the 4.0 era steadily and continuously, concluded the DSD’s Director-General.
