MOL Enhances Accident Preventative Workplace Measures under “Partners in Safe Construction” Project

          On March 24, 2022, at the meeting room on the 5th floor, Ministry of Labour, Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong chaired the opening ceremony of the “partners in safe construction” project under the “Safe Construction, Safe Life” motto. The Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Mr. Suthep Chitvong, Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General, Mr. Niyom Songkaew, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, construction sector network partners and related officials also participated in the event.
          Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong said that the Ministry of Labour under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, is aware of the rapidly changing situation. During the past period, construction workers have been experiencing high risks and injuries from work, increasing the trend. To prevent re-accidents, they have set a policy for the Ministry of Labour to prevent and instill awareness among construction network partners to prevent the occurrence of unsafe working conditions by enhancing awareness of preventive measures in construction work and joining together to reduce the statistics of accidents from working in the construction business, also reducing the risk of re-injury. The project was organized asking all construction sector network partners to work together with the same goal: joining forces to prevent unsafe conditions from construction work and jointly taking care of employees to have good health, driving society in the construction sector to achieve safety sustainably, to continue to create benefits and happiness for the workforce.
          The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General, Mr. Niyom Songkaew, added that 450 people participated in this event online, at the same time across the country. The activities consisted of training on safety laws, safety engineering at work, a discussion on removing accident lessons from construction work, and a virtual exhibition about the problems and dangers of construction work. It is hoped that this project will reduce the frequent tragedy of construction work accidents and promote change among construction sector network partners, to take action to prevent unsafe working conditions by raising awareness and prevention of accidents in construction work following the law.
