MOL Inspector General (Mr. Pulsak Setthanan) and the Group in Official Visit at Taipei

              During 23 – 25 May 2011, the MOL Inspector General (Mr. Pulsak Setthanan), and a group of officials, in total 5 people, went on an official visit and update on the operational results and other indicators of the Office of Labour Affairs in Taipei. In this visit, the Inspector General’s group had a meeting with the Director of Taipei Labour Office (Miss Ariya Limsuwat) to hear the operational results of the fiscal year 2011 of Taipei Labour Office, performance according to indicators, Taiwan’s economic situations and employment policy for foreign workers, as well as issues in the operation, workers’ problems, and recommendations.

 

 
                     
  
           After that, the group went to observe at the Hotline center 1955, by the Taiwan’s Council of Labour Affairs (CLA), established to help foreign workers in Taiwan who have problems. The center hosts staff who can speak foreign languages and is open 24/7 and the service is free of charge. The group listened to the presentation of the center and exchanged opinions in the operation as well as problems and obstacles.
 
        
          
 
                
              Moreover, the group had a chance to meet with the Executive Director of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Mr. Wiboon Khusakul). Discussions were made in the meeting on the issues of Thai workers in Taiwan and the importance of Taiwan’s job market, as well as Thai workers’ weakness and problems e.g. drinking. The Thailand Trade and Economic Office has been consistently trying to encourage Thai workers to stop drinking and sees that if this behavior is solved Taiwan would welcome more Thai workers.
 
         
 
           Before returning to Thailand, the group met with representatives from the recruitment association of Northern Taiwan to discuss and exchange opinions and experience as well as problems faced by the association in bringing Thai workers to work in Taiwan.

           Lastly, the MOL Inspector General gave an interview with the Radio Taiwan International, which also has broadcasts in Thai language and is popular among Thai workers, in order to boost morale of Thai workers in Taiwan.
