At 09.30 on 22 February 2017 at the Government Houses, Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti, officers from the Department of Employment, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and the Command Center for Protection of Labour joined the first committee meeting on coordination and command for anti-human trafficking operations. Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasia chaired the meeting which discussed 3 anti-human trafficking issues including a manual for anti-human trafficking operations and assistive measures for victims, the Anti-Human Trafficking Act (third edition) B.E. 2560 and Thailand’s anti-human trafficking report for 2016. The issues will be presented to the cabinet further.
A manual on anti-human trafficking operations and assistive measures for victims was formed and will be distributed to relevant units to ensure operations align in the same direction. As for the Anti-Human Trafficking Act (third edition) B.E. 2560 which went into effect on 28 January 2017, training will be organized to educate relevant parties for effective enforcement. This includes officers from the Royal Thai Police force, the Department of Special Investigation, the Office of The Attorney General, the Court of Justice and other relevant units where staff are involved in identification of victims, as well as relevant companies and associations. There will be a total of 6 batches with the first commencing on 1-2 March 2017 in Bangkok.
