MOL Joins ASEAN Community to Promote Comprehensive Labour Cooperation

          The Labour Minister’s Advisor led the team to the 25th ASEAN Labor Minister Meeting and the 10th ASEAN Plus Three Labor Ministers Meeting to promote cooperation and joint labour missions of the ASEAN member countries, without leaving anyone behind 

  The Labour Minister’s Advisor Police General Suwat Chanittikul let the committee of Thai representatives together with Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul and committee to the 25th ASEAN Labor Minister Meeting (25th ALMM) and 10th ASEAN Plus Three Labor Ministers Meeting (10th ALMM+3) from November 28-29, 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meetings are a leader’s forum to promote labour cooperation of ASEAN member nations and exchange comments regarding the implementation of the ASEAN Ministerial Work Plan such as protection of migrant workers’ rights, promotion of transitions from informal employment to employment in the system and Promoting Green Jobs for Equity and Inclusive Growth of ASEAN for example. The main topic of the 25th ALMM was the promotion of green jobs for equity and inclusive growth of the ASEAN Community. H.E. M Kula Segaran Minister of Human Resource also gave an address on commencement of the meeting.

  Pol.Gen. Suwat   said that Thailand has supported the implementation of an action plan, as well as initiatives to drive the promotion of access to environmentally friendly work, in line with the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s 100th anniversary, which Thailand will host in celebration. It focuses on valuable work opportunities through promoting green jobs, protection of migrant workers’ rights and promotion of safety and occupational health in enterprises to international standards, in order to provide protection for local and foreign workers, without leaving anyone behind.

 The meeting also endorsed the ASEAN Terms of Reference (TOR) to strengthen the framework of ASEAN Ministerial Labour Relations and launched the 25th ALMM message, considered a key part of the meeting. It also discussed to expand cooperation with ASEAN plus three and seek ways to promote academic and technical collaboration to further enhance workforce mobility in the ASEAN plus three regions.
