MOL Joins Grab Taxi to Develop Language Skills and Services to Create Professional Grab Taxis

          The Labour Minister assigned his Secretariat to preside over the signing ceremony between the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development, the t Social Security Office, and Grab Co., Ltd. The collaboration aims to develop drivers to enhance professional skills and access to social security rights to provide excellent services.
          On November 9, 2022, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Suthep Chitvong, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned him to preside over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on skill development and benefits for drivers of public passenger cars (taxis), food delivery drivers, and couriers. The signatories were the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Social Security Office’s Acting Performance Advisor, Ms. Nuntinee Supsiri, Managing Director of Grab Taxi (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Mr. Worachat Luxkanalode, at the meeting room on the fifth floor, Ministry of Labour. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, is focused on raising the quality of workers to access learning and skill development opportunities at all levels to create opportunities for careers, income, work, and good welfare for life. The collaboration is putting the policy above in action, where the three agencies work together to develop professional skills for drivers of public passenger cars (taxis), food delivery drivers, and couriers to have the knowledge, abilities, and professional skills and receive social security benefits.
          The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, added that in this collaboration, the Department of Skill Development and Grab Thailand will jointly push and encourage Grab driver-partners to create short courses through the GrabAcademy and DSD Online Training program. The project will pilot four training courses, including fundamentals on electric vehicles (EV), English for drivers, Chinese for drivers, and knowledge of social security for self-employed persons. There will also be training in skills necessary for their profession, such as driving safely on the road, services to impress customers, and support learning and developing new skills to be used as an opportunity to generate income. The project will begin in November onwards. Those who are interested in other courses can attend the training at the Institute of Skill Development and the Office of Skill Development across the country.
          Managing Director of Grab Thailand, Mr. Worachat Luxkanalode, said that as a platform provider, in addition to the continuous development of technology and service systems, Grab has also initiated and developed other benefits to support the work of driver partners and create new standards for working. This collaboration with the Department of Skill Development and the Social Security Office reinforces Grab’s commitment to promoting and developing their potential and improving the quality of life for driver-partners in Thailand. This is part of reforming the learning process, occupational skills development, and labour potential, as well as promoting access to social security rights of insured persons to increase competitiveness and strengthen work stability, following the Labour Minister’s policy.
