On April 18, 2022, at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, to attend the meeting to certify the draft plan to drive and promote bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The meeting also covered the draft Memorandum of Understanding on establishing the Saudi-Thai Cooperation Council, chaired by Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at meeting rooms 1-3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The essence of the meeting included covering the draft plan to drive and promote bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The main component related to the Ministry of Labour is the labour agreement between the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development of Saudi Arabia. In particular, the delivery of Thai workers to work in Saudi Arabia. There are two topics. The first is the labour recruitment agreement between the Thai Ministry of Labour and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The second is the agreement on providing in-house labour between the Thai Ministry of Labour and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The two parties agree to promote fair and decent employment of skilled and semi-skilled Thai workers in Saudi Arabia and fair contracts to work in sectors such as construction, industry, tourism and hospitality, health work, household work, and other services sectors. Both agreements were signed on March 28, 2022.
The meeting also approved a draft memorandum of understanding on establishing the Saudi-Thai Cooperation Council to promote political, security, economic, social, and cultural cooperation between the two sides based on equality and mutual benefit. The purpose is to promote the exchange of strategic information to deepen mutual political trust and collaboration in developing political, security, economic, social, and cultural strategies to identify future cooperation issues. It also aims to promote consultations between the two parties in regional and international affairs of mutual interest and promote cooperation to protect and promote the mutual interests of both parties. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the implementation of all agreements between the parties and attempts to resolve any problems arising from the performance of such agreements to make arrangements at the secondary level concerning such matters as necessary.
