On June 10, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the meeting to prepare for driving operations in alignment with government policy regarding the minimum wage of 400 Baht. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Decha Phruekpattanarak, and the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives attended the meeting via Zoom Cloud Meetings and at the Prasong Rananant meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
Mr. Phiphat said that the government, led by Prime Minister Mr. Srettha Thavisin, has a policy and goal to adjust the minimum wage to 400 Baht nationwide within 2024. The Cabinet passed a resolution on May 14, 2024, acknowledging the progress report on setting the minimum wage rate of 400 Baht equally throughout the nation. The Ministry of Labour issued an order at the Ministry of Labour’s Executive Meeting No. 3/2024 on May 8, 2024, at the Prof. Nikom Chantravitun Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour, for Provincial Labour Offices to discuss with the Provincial Chamber of Commerce and the Provincial Industrial Council to ask for their opinions about adjusting the minimum wage rate to 400 Baht nationwide, and to listen to the opinions of the private sector regarding the adjustment, the impact, and the supported that employers/companies need from the government to help alleviate the impact if the minimum wage rate is adjusted. The opinions and needs will be used to determine measures to assist employers/companies in presenting to the Cabinet so that relevant agencies can carry out further measures. They also ask for cooperation from Provincial Governors, Provincial Labour Offices, and Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Offices to host a meeting of the subcommittee to consider the provincial minimum wage rate. The Provincial Governor chairs the subcommittee meeting to consider and review the suitability of the provincial minimum wage rate according to the framework and criteria for consideration, to be completed within July 2024, to propose to the Wage Committee for further consideration.
For this meeting, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, clarified the guidelines for setting the minimum wage rate according to the framework and criteria for reviewing the suitability of setting the provincial minimum wage rate.
