Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the agreement signing ceremony for collaboration between the Department of Skills Development and Toyota Motors Thailand on developing professionals in tank maintenance, vehicle paint and automobile services. The agreement was signed to support the automobile industry’s growth towards a Thailand 4.0, and to extend cooperation on human resource development. In her speech, she stated that the automobile industry is a major contributor to the nation’s economy, employment and value creation, as the industry has experienced rapid growth and competitiveness regionally and globally. It has thus been translated to government policy to work on workforce development in the automobile industry. Though the economy has experienced a decelerated growth rate, the automobile industry has managed to maintain consistent growth. The Ministry of Labour has joined with Toyota Motors Thailand since 2010 in producing quality technicians, a profession in consistent demand. Efforts have also contributed to adjusting higher rates of compensation and to enable successors to be eligible for immediate employment.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour further stated that the Ministry of Labour had established the Northeastern Advanced Technology Training Center 2 in Ubon Ratchathani, training professionals in tank maintenance, vehicle paint and automobile services. The center will then expand to Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan and Lampang this year, with an additional 12 in the coming future, aiming to train 200-300 people annually.
“The automobile industry in Thailand is competitive, and SME businesses have proved consistent development. Because this industry has rapidly changing technology, SMEs, particularly supply chains must ensure adaptation and continuous improvement,” said the Permanent Secretary.
