MOL Organizes Activities for World Day Against Child Labour

           The Ministry of Labour organized activities for the World Day Against Child Labour 2019 and revealed the report on the achievement of the cooperation program for the survey of the work of children in Thailand in 2018, which Thailand prepared by international standards. The ministry also launched campaigns to raise awareness to all sectors to cooperate on the work against child labour in Thailand.

 

 

         
            On June 11, 2019, Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Mr. Wiwat Tangsong presided over the commencement of the World Day Against Child Labour 2019 campaign with Mr. Graeme Buckley, Director of the International Labour Office in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, along with senior executives from the Ministry of Labour. The occasion took place at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkram, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour Building. Mr. Wiwat said that the activities today are a campaign to raise awareness for those involved to understand and help resolve the problem of child labour in Thailand, as the International Labour Organization (ILO) has pushed member countries to conduct a campaign on the matter on June 12 every year. Together with this is the report on the survey of children working in Thailand in 2018, which is the first report on the topic done by Thailand with the cooperation of the National Statistical Office in the preparation of statistical data and the ILO with academic support. This year’s event has importance with the launch and presentation of the achievements of the cooperation program in the survey of the work of children in Thailand in 2018, which Thailand has prepared using the criteria that meets international standards. In addition, it is also a presentation of the results of the survey of children working in Thailand in 2018 and to raise awareness about child labour for all sectors to see the importance and cooperate in resolving the issue of child labour in Thailand.
            Activities for the World Day Against Child Labour 2019 include the symbolic representation of the power against child labour, exhibition booths by government and private agencies, mini concerts and the announcement of the success of the survey of the work of children in Thailand in 2018, which is the first report on the topic in Thailand conducted with the cooperation of the Ministry of Labour, the National Statistical Office and the International Labour Organization. There were 500 participants, including representatives from government and private agencies, employers’ representatives, employees, representatives from international organizations and students.
