MOL Prepares Tripartite Representatives for ILO Annual Conference in Geneva, Switzerland

          The “Deputy Permanent Secretary” as the head of the Thai delegation held a preparatory meeting for tripartite representatives to prepare before traveling to participate in the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference from June 10 – 21, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

 

            On June 5, 2019, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul presided over the preparatory meeting for tripartite representatives to participate in the annual meeting of the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference at the Prasong Rananant Conference Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting acknowledged the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference, which will be held between June 10 – 21, 2019, at the United Nations Office and the International Labour Organization’s Headquarters in Geneva. Key agenda topics include a report of the Chairman of the Faculty and the Director-General of the International Labour Organization, proposals of plans, budgets, questions, information and reports on compliance with conventions and recommendations. Secondary agenda topics include documentation of the ILO’s 100th anniversary, violence and abuse in the working world, discussions based on key issues and activities related to the future of the work. In addition, there are also agenda items to vote to certify the proposed new international labour standards.
            This meeting was attended by tripartite representatives including Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradech Waleeittikul and government representatives, Thai Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Mr. Sek Wannamethee and 16 government representatives, alternate representatives and advisors, President of the Employers’ Confederation of Agriculture, Business and Industry Mr. Suwit Sripeirn and 6 government representatives, alternate representatives and advisors, and Vice President of the Confederation of Thai Labour and 8 labour representatives, alternate representatives and advisors.
            The annual Session of the International Labour Conference is the decision structure that determines highest policy of the International Labour Organization, which is scheduled once a year. The participants including tripartite representatives from 187 member countries and international observers meet to consider various topics in the world of work related to the agenda set by the faculty within the International Labour Organization. The meeting consists of a full board of directors and various technical committees. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradech Waleeittikul as the head of the Thai delegation will speak at the general meeting at the UN General Assembly on the morning of June 18.
