Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary Mr. Somsak Apiwantanakul as representative in commencing the ASEAN meeting on promoting environmentally friendly work, which took place at The Bazaa Hotel in Bangkok. He said that global warming has impacted the workforce and thus encouraged all to be aware of the changes which has also affected consumer behaviour. This in turn has resulted in the manufacturing industry producing products, services and structural basics on the foundation of reducing carbon footprint in the world in response to consumer demand; examples include energy and daily consumables. Such change has resulted in the need for workforce flexibility, but more importantly, the need for sufficient skills and adaptability. He said that employers, employees and the public sector must come together, reflect on government policy and address these changes by producing talent and feeding them into the market. In parallel, he said that all parties would need to take into consideration implications on the environment.
In addition to this, the International Labour Organization has put focus on green centenary initiatives, an impact from fluctuating temperatures in the working world and also potential opportunities to keep up with the changing climate. The ILO has urged all nations to be aware of the impact on change which – an urgent issue for execution.
