Content Description

On April 27, 2022, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, joined the Senate Committee on Labour on a visit to study and listen to a briefing on action plans and guidelines for skill development, including problems and obstacles in past operations and solutions. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Police General Adul Saengsingkeaw, chaired the meeting. Representatives from logistics operators and heads of government agencies, and officials of departments under the Ministry of Labour in Chiang Rai Province joined the reception at the Chiang Saen International Skills Development Institute, Wiang Subdistrict, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai.
Pol. Gen. Adul said that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected the overall economic system of the country. Some businesses have slowed down. However, one sector has maintained business stability with even a trend of growth, and that is the logistics and transportation industry. Businesses can meet the needs of people in the present era. From meeting with private sector entrepreneurs, it was found that the private sector is still facing a shortage of logistics workers. Since the COVID-19 situation began to ease, it changed the Thai people’s ways of life, with new careers and professions unfolding. Thus, high technology has to be used, and it is pure, clean energy. Training courses must be in line with the demands of the labour market of employers and businesses as well.
Pol. Gen. Adul continued that he brought the Senate Labor Committee to visit Chiang Rai Province today. It is a province where most of the income comes from tourism, trade, and services and aims to develop into a trade and investment city. Therefore, he observed the logistics transportation skill training, the towing training course, and warehouse management to prepare the workforce to support the logistics linkages between countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). There are six sub-region members: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Southern China (Yunnan Province). The Chiang Saen International Skills Development Institute in Chiang Rai Province has a mission to develop craftsmanship using high technology to increase the capacity of workers and entrepreneurs and strengthen economic competitiveness at the international level. It aims to develop the skills and potential of workers and businesses, assess and certify workers’ skills following international standards, create an international workforce network and become a center for skill development among training agencies in the Southeast Asian sub-region.
