Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonlert Teerakul chaired the onboarding for the 16th batch of new government officers which took place at the Princeton Park Suite Hotel in Bangkok. He said, “All of you will become valuable resources to the Ministry of Labour. I hope you realize the significance of your role and responsibilities, and remember to keep learning and developing yourself to keep up with the world’s trends for more effective results. I hope that all of you are dedicated to your role and conduct yourselves well for the benefit of the nation.”
Mr. Boonlert also presented the oath for new government officers, promising to uphold important principles. A total of 50 new officers attended the onboarding and took the oath comprising 6 from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, 2 from the Department of Employment, 6 from the Department of Skills Development, 7 from the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and 29 from the Social Security Office.
All Units Urged to Prepare for Migrant Worker Returns During Songkran
Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul chaired the Anti-Human Trafficking Subcommittee’s meeting at the Prasong Rananant Conference Room, to follow up progress on action plans from the various units responsible for different areas. The meeting acknowledged and approved of the subcommittees progress in 2016, including its plan to resolve human trafficking and illegal labour issues this year, plans to comply with labour agreements between Thailand and the EU this year, as well as the working framework on zoning.
The Labour Minister has urged the Ministry of Interior, the subcommittee’s secretariat, to drive the zoning plans and provide periodical reports in to ensure alignment and efficient operations with the EU, accelerating issues which were discussed, including the 2017 plans to resolve human trafficking and illegal labour, and agreements (on labour) between Thailand and EU, within the given timeframe. On the topic of migrant workers returning home, Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has emphasized preventative measures to exploitation, where he has requested a report on potential issues to provide immediate resolution and plan for the workers returns to Thailand. The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Waranont Pitiwan said that 14,607 applications to return home have been submitted by Burmese, Cambodian and Laotian workers, with more expected to come by Monday (10 April), affirming that letters would be issued in time to the travelling workers.
