On 12 February 2011, Office of Labour Affairs in Israel travelled to inspect Thai workers working in an orange farm located in southern Israel. There are altogether 24 Thai workers working in the orange farm. They normally receive salary on a daily basis, except for a harvest season September-February where they will receive salary on a piece work rate. Each worker receives approximately 50,000-55,000 baht each month.
All workers have decent living and working conditions. However, worker’s payment is paid via ATM machine and very often workers cannot withdraw money because ATM machine runs out of cash. Office of Labour Affairs has warned them to keep away from drugs and behave well in order to preserve the reputation of Thai labours and labour market share in Israel. Office of Labour Affairs also gave Thai workers some sport gears to boost their morale and give them inspiration to work before they left.
