German authorities have held a “Yes, we’re open- Welcome to Germany” travelling exhibition to lure skilled workers from around the globe to work in Germany.

German Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Ursula von der Leyen and Economics and Technology Ministry Parliamentary State Secretary Peter Hintze opened the Yes, we’re open- Welcome to Germany” travelling exhibition at Humboldt Box, Berlin. The opening ceremony was also attended by Dilek Kolat, Senator for Integration, Work, and Social Issues.

Ursula von der Leyen said it is fortunate that skilled working-age people are interested to work in Germany. They will help generate creativity and competition and add more nationalities in the country’s workforce. The exhibition aims to develop a welcoming culture and promote understanding about Germany’s need for skilled migrant workers in the public. The country foresees that it cannot rely solely on its domestic labour pool in future as labour demand is growing. Germany is an open-minded country that welcomes skilled migrant workers from around the globe. Over the past two years, it has clearly removed some legal obstacles that prevent skilled migrant workers to come and work in the country.

The “Yes, we’re open- Welcome to Germany” travelling exhibition is part of a programme of Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Ministry of Economics and Technology and Employment Agency. It is part of the Skilled-Labour Offensive to ensure that Germany has sufficient skilled labour on a long-term basis. This campaign was launched to inform the public, enterprises and skilled workers about possibilities and prospects and to point out options. The exhibition can be seen in Berlin until 30 April 2013. It will then tour Germany for two years, including Dresden, Stuttgart, Potsdam, Dortmund, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Magdeburg, Freiburg and Jena. Admission is free.
