On March 6, 2013, Ms. Chantana Boon-Arj, Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs), was invited by IM Japan to give orientation to 24 Thai trainees, who have just arrived in Japan under its training programe. Ms. Malee Wada, assistant tasked to promote oversea employment, also attended the orientation.

The Batch 24-11 will receive 1-month training at IM Japan’s training centre in Chiba Presfecture’s Motoyawata Township, suburb of Tokyo before they will be allowed to receive training from workplaces. The trainees, 21 men and 2 women, arrived in Japan on February 20, 2013.

During the orientation, Ms. Chantana and Ms. Malee introduced themselves and familiarized with the trainees, saying they were officials from Office of Labour Affairs in Japan, one of Ministry of Labor’s organisaitons.

They told the trainees to contact the office when they need assistance and that it is part of their duty to maintain and promote good image of the country because they are arranged to work here by the Thai government. The trainees are reminded to learn work skills while they are in Japan as it will benefit them in the future. Trainees who completed the programe will be wanted in the Thai labour market because they would become skilled, know Japanese work style and Japanese language. Officials from Office of Labour Affairs in Japan will visit them regularly at their workplace to boost their morale and follow their progress.

Ms. Malee also explained important labour laws to the trainees so they have clear understading of the laws before entering their workplace. This covered work hour, holiday rights, overtime (OT) pay calculation and OT payment, which are largely different from Thai laws. She also urged the trainees save money and spend wisely so that they have saving to start a business when they complete their programme.
