Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia joined the health checkup programme for Thai workers in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Between 24-29 April 2013, Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia, Miss Pataraporn Samantarat, Minister Counsellor (labour affairs) and Miss. Sopit Madpongtua, Labour Advisor went for official visit to implement the project on quality of life promotion and health for Thai labour in Malaysia at Bintulu, Sarawak. They worked with Ministry of Labour and physicians and nurses from Rajavithi Hospital and Songkhla Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital.

The physicians and nurses provided health-check up to 296 Thai workers divided into 189 persons from HiapSeng Engineering (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Eastern Engineer Ventures Sdn. Bhd and 107 persons from Permana Emas Sdn. Bhd. The programs includes getting patients’ information, blood pressure monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and lung, throat check-up, health care advice, liquor and cigarette withdrawal, and stress reduction advice. The check-up results found that 73 persons got respiratory infection such as flu, 37 persons had myalgic , 35 persons had hypertension, 14 persons got Gastrointestinal tract diseases such as diarrhea, gastritis, 7 persons felt dizzy , 11 persons had skin disease, 1 person got eye disease, and 7 persons got other disases such as heart disease, urinary infection diseases, toothache and other 111 persons are healthy. The physicians prescribed necessary medicines to those workers. Most of them smoke and drink but none of them got depression or dread disease.
