On 8 October 2010, Office of Labour Affairs in Riyadh represented by Mr. Chaiyot Yousub, Minister Counsellor and CPO1 Bancha Chuenchom, Labour Counsellor called on Thai workers at residential camp of Al Abdullatef Furniture Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in order to encourage them and give them advice regarding occupancy and operation since this group of workers entered into Riyadh by obtaining visitor Visa allowing for a maximum period of 90 days of stay. After that, the employer would request to extend period of stay and consequently changed type of Visa to be employment Visa. This company operates its business in manufacturing and carpet laying business in Riyadh and other cities with approximately 4,000 employees employed. The company used to hire up to 700 Thai workers but it presently remains only 27 people and 15 of them are new-entry worker. They earn 1,000 Riyal including food allowance and get incentive from carpet laying. The employer also provides accommodation to them.
