On 8-10 February 2011, Office of Labour Affairs in Riyadh assigned CPO 1 Bancha Chuenchom, Advisor (labour) to pay an official visit to Bahrain in order to welcome and facilitate Vice Minister of Labour, Mr. Yuph Nana) and the group, totally 9 people by coordinating with Royal Thai Embassy in Manama, Bahrain. In this regard, he discussed with around 60 representatives of Thais in Bahrain and met with the employer and Thai workers from 4 companies namely 1) Ramsis Engineering Company, operating its business in manufacturing gas tank with 21 Thai workers are employed as joinery, foreman, welder and crane driver, 2) Jurong Engineering Company, an iron smelt construction company with 25 Thai workers are employed 3) Al Hassanian Company, operating its business in marine structure works with 60 Thai workers are employed. The sites where they called on have 10 Thai workers working in. This company undertakes prominent projects value over BHD 10,000 million. 4) Ebrahim K. Kanoo Company, operating its business in sale and repairing “Toyota” automobile with 30 Thai workers are employed as auto painter and beater.
According to this visit, it is found that they all are highly skilled workers but have language proficiency weakness. They are presently facing a problem of high cost of living and currency devaluation.
