On 22 August 2012, Mrs. Ratiwan suntara, Minister Counsellor (labour affairs) and Miss Pimpaporn Tityanan, labour counsellor called on Thai workers working at Chun Yuan Steel Industry Co. Ltd in Longtan.
Chun Yuan Steel Industry Co. Ltd was founded in 1965 operating aluminum and alloy manufacturing businesses which are electric steel, metallic computer case, auto parts, etc. This company has several plants in Taiwan such as Taoyuan, Zhongli, Kaohsiung. It also has an MOU with Japan and mainland of China. In addition, there are subsidiaries operating construction business such as department store, university buildings and flyovers in Taiwan. Its plant in Longtan employs 210 Thai workers and 1,400 local workers.
The office called on workers and inquired them about working problems, living conditions as well as asked them to abide by company regulations and avoid gambling and drugs since its against Taiwan laws resulting in the arrestment and repatriation. Lastly, they informed that Thai workers can contact the Office of Labour Affairs in Taipei problems for any problems.
